YardShelf Privacy Policy
Last updated
YardShelf helps you keep track of the lawn, pest, mosquito and pool products you own, the amounts their labels allow, and what you've applied. This policy explains what we collect, why, who helps us run the app, and your choices.
What we collect
- Account: your email address and a password (stored securely by our hosting provider; we never see your password).
- What you enter: your yard's address and map location, zones and their outlines, the products on your shelf and how much is left, label rates, applications you log (dates, amounts, notes, photos you attach), tasks and reminders, soil-test results (and the report file if you choose to keep it), pool details and water tests, prices you paid.
- AI reading requests: when you ask YardShelf to read a label, a shelf photo, a soil-test report or a pool test strip, that photo or file is sent to our server and to Anthropic (the maker of the Claude AI) to read it. We keep a record that a reading happened (to apply daily limits), not the photo itself — unless you choose to save a photo or report file with your records.
- Photo checks ("What's wrong?"): the yard or pest photos you choose and anything you type about them are sent to Anthropic to suggest likely causes. We save the result and, if you keep it, the first photo with your records (private to your household).
- Ask the label and Label lookup: your question, or the product name / EPA number you enter, is sent with the product's public label to Anthropic to answer or read it. Label lookup also fetches the public label from the EPA's website. Answers and looked-up labels are saved with your household; if you choose "Suggest for the shared catalog", the looked-up label (not your other records) may be reviewed and added to the catalog for everyone.
- Subscriptions: if you subscribe, Apple or Google handle payment. Our subscription service (RevenueCat) tells us whether your subscription is active; we never receive your card details.
- We do NOT collect contacts, advertising identifiers, or your location in the background. We don't show ads and don't track you across other apps or websites.
How we use it
Only to run the app for you: calculate mixes, keep your shelf and log up to date, schedule reminders, show weather for your yard, read labels and reports when you ask, and provide Pro features if you subscribe. We do not sell your information or use it for advertising.
Who helps US (service providers)
- Supabase (hosting, database, sign-in and file storage; data stored in the United States).
- Anthropic (Claude AI) reads the photos, files and questions you send to the AI features (reading, photo checks, Ask the label, Label lookup). Under Anthropic's commercial terms, content sent through its API is not used to train its models.
- The U.S. EPA's public pesticide label database (Label lookup and Ask the label fetch public labels from it; nothing about you is sent).
- RevenueCat (subscription status), with Apple App Store / Google Play (payments).
- Apple Weather (WeatherKit) (weather forecast): your yard location is rounded to about 1 km, and only that rounded location and your time zone are sent.
- NOAA (soil temperature): we load NOAA's public GFS model data into our own database twice a day; your location is never sent to NOAA.
- Apple Maps (the satellite map used to measure zones) loads map images for the area you view.
- Retailers: if you tap a "Buy" link, the retailer's site opens in your browser. Some links are affiliate links (we may earn a commission). We don't send your personal information to retailers.
Sharing within your household
Everything you enter belongs to your household. Only signed-in members of your household can see it; database rules enforce this.
How long we keep it
We keep your information until you delete it or delete your account. Photos sent only for AI reading are not stored by us after the reading. Backups made by our hosting provider are deleted on their normal schedule.
Deleting your account
In the app: Yard → ⚙︎ Settings → Account → Delete account. This permanently deletes your account, your household's records, photos and files. If you can't use the app, see: the delete-account page
Deleting your account does not cancel an App Store or Google Play subscription — cancel it in your store account settings.
Your choices
- Turn AI reading off at any time: Yard → ⚙︎ Settings → Privacy & AI.
- Location: you can type an address instead of sharing your current location, and you can remove it.
- Camera and photos: used only when you choose to scan or attach something; you can turn access off in your phone's settings.
- You can ask us for a copy of your information or to correct it.
Children
YardShelf is meant for adults managing their own property and is not directed to children under 16.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit. Access to your household's records is limited to your household by database rules.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date above and, for important changes, tell you in the app.
